Anita Gamble Baker: A Life of Purpose and Compassion
Anita Gamble Baker, MUSC College of Nursing Class of 1970, dedicated more than five decades to serving others with warmth and wisdom. Known for her radiant smile and deep compassion, Anita’s nursing career began in Germany and spanned diverse leadership roles across the U.S., including directing mental health centers and senior communities. She launched South Carolina’s first VA dialysis program and later developed caregiver education for the Alzheimer’s Association. Her passion for elder advocacy led her to become a nationally certified Aging Life Care Professional®, founding AGB and Associates in Pawleys Island to offer tailored care management for aging adults. Even while facing her own illness, Anita remained committed to her clients. Her husband Laurin’s gift to MUSC’s palliative care program ensures that her spirit of innovation and compassion continues to guide future caregivers. Anita’s legacy endures not only through her family and friends but also through the lives touched by her tireless devotion to patient-centered care.
